In Luke 8, we have two events side by side. In verses 22-25, we find Jesus and his disciples in a boat in the midst of a fierce gale. Jesus is sleeping and his disciples wake him up, fearful for their lives. Jesus “got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm.”
They land the boat at the country of the Gerasenes and are again assailed – this time by a demoniac (verses 26-39). Jesus expels what might have been thousands of demons from this man and he sat down at the feet of Jesus, “clothed and in his right mind.”
The first story is about a storm outside.
The second story is about a storm inside.
In both cases, Jesus is Master – in total control at all times.
We are facing storms from the outside today, including a health crisis, an economic crisis, a political crisis, a social crisis, and a natural disaster crisis.
We are facing storms on the inside as well, as our emotions, our aspirations, our expectations, and our futures are in turbulent upheaval.
Remember that in today’s storms, as with the storms the disciples faced in Galilee, Jesus is Master. He is in total control at all times.
He will see us safely through the storms. Place your trust in him.
