Do You Not Know?

I was struck this morning when I read a verse that began “Do you not know...?” So I looked for other verses that began in that same way – here are a few that give good food for thought!

“DO YOU NOT KNOW that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?” (Romans 6:16, emphasis mine)

-- Who are you obeying?

-- What results do your thoughts, words, and actions bring about in you and in others ... death or righteousness?

“DO YOU NOT KNOW that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:3-4, emphasis mine)

-- Do you believe that your old life really is dead – with all the sin, all the shame, all the blame? If not, pray that God will help you to understand and live into this truth.

-- Take the time to praise God today that, through Jesus’ death and resurrection, you “walk in newness of life”!

“DO YOU NOT KNOW that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, emphasis mine)

-- Do you take sin seriously? Are you harboring any sin in your life? If so, take time now to confess and repent.

-- Picture yourself standing before the throne of God – completely washed clean by Jesus and holy to the Lord!

“DO YOU NOT KNOW that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20, emphasis mine)

-- Think about the Holy Spirit literally dwelling within you. Spend time contemplating this great mystery. After you have quieted yourself and pondered this truth, ask yourself: How should I respond?

-- How will you glorify God today?
