Do We Think God Is Boring?

Do we think God is boring?

Before answering, consider:

We frequently binge-watch on Netflix or stay up late reading a gripping novel. But when was the last time you heard someone say, “Wow! I was up until 1:00 in the morning binge-reading the Bible! It was awesome!”

We love it when a favorite performer gives encore after encore at an event. But when was the last time you told a friend, “Church was incredible! We kept going and going – no one wanted to go home!”

We excitedly share about the great movie we just saw, the great book we just read, or the great music we just heard. But when was the last time you felt, “I absolutely cannot wait to talk with someone about Jesus and what he has done! I am going to burst if I don’t share what I know about him!”

We look forward to uninterrupted time with our spouse or a good friend – hours spent enjoying conversation, sharing our lives, and just being together. But when was the last time you thought, “Yes! I am going to spend time with God this evening – I’ve got everything else squared away and can enjoy hours with him ... talking, listening, and just being together.”

Now, consider the question again: do we think God is boring? Do we find other things more engaging and interesting? If so, then the problem is not with God, it is with us! God is not, never has been, and never will be boring!

Do you want to be truly excited about God? Begin with a simple prayer:

“Lord, I have put you in a box – and it’s not even a big box. Please, show me who you are. Help me to know you and love you more today than I did yesterday, and more tomorrow than I do today.”

Pray it honestly.

Pray it consistently.

Watch what happens.
