In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
And the Word became flesh
and dwelt among us:
a child was born to us
a son was given to us.
We saw His glory -
glory as of the only-begotten
from the Father
full of grace and truth.
And so He shall ever be
Wonderful Counselor
Mighty God
Eternal Father
Prince of Peace.
Behold the tender mercy of our God:
the Sunrise from on high has visited us!
He shines upon those who sit in darkness
and the shadow of death
to guide our feet into the way of peace
and to accomplish redemption for His people.
And so He is named
Jesus – for He saves His people from their sins
Emmanuel – for He is forever God with us.
