“Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil.” – I Thessalonians 5:19-22
I have a word of caution and warning today: God is at work in the world through tremendous movements of the Spirit, including prophetic utterances. But Satan is REALLY good at making spiritual counterfeits.
For that reason, it is critical to follow Paul’s advice in I Thessalonians: “examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil.” Don’t assume that every person who claims to be a prophet is a prophet. Don’t believe everything a person says just because they announce, “The Lord says!” Don’t accept a message at face value, even if it has been accompanied by a miracle.
Practice discernment. Test what you hear. God’s Word and work will always stand up to scrutiny.
